The study demonstrates obesity-induced systemic and periodontal inflammation in SSLepR mutant rats without evidence of bone loss or sex differences. However, the absence of bone loss despite significant inflammation raises questions about potential mitigating factors, such as microbiota composition or genetic resilience. Could the authors clarify whether these factors were considered or if additional experimental conditions (e.g., bacterial challenge) might reveal more pronounced outcomes?
