The study’s conclusions are invalidated by a critical confounding variable: the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected in 2022, yet the analysis attributes changes in well-being and capability solely to bushfire recovery grants, ignoring the simultaneous, profound impact of the pandemic on the same outcomes. The design cannot establish causality. How do you justify this causal attribution without controlling for the pandemic’s effects?
