Since the results suggest groove binding at high ionic strength, did the authors use any additional techniques like UV-Vis, circular dichroism, or fluorescence spectroscopy to confirm this? 

Also, since the force spectroscopy experiments show a strong dependence on ionic strength, was a control experiment done to check if the changes in DNA mechanics were due to the dye itself and not just the high salt concentration?
