The study reports a remarkably high transformation efficiency (~74%) and gene editing efficiency (~70%) for Kalanchoe blossfeldiana using the CDB method, but how did the authors ensure that these percentages are not artificially inflated due to the possibility of multiple regenerated buds originating from the same transformed cell or explant? Was clonal propagation taken into account in the calculation of transformation and editing efficiencies, or could these “independent events” be genetically identical clones, thus overestimating true transformation rates?
