The article “Efficacy of root filling removal from aged, minimally instrumented mandibular molars using a retreatment system combination” investigates the performance of ProTaper Universal Retreatment (PTUR) and XP-endo Finisher R (XPFR) systems in removing aged root filling materials using advanced imaging techniques. The study demonstrates the efficacy of these tools in cleaning minimally instrumented canals while preserving dentine, which aligns with modern endodontic goals. However, some aspects could benefit from further elaboration. For instance, could the authors clarify how the manual adjustment of micro-CT segmentation thresholds minimized variability? Additionally, while the 64-month aging period simulates clinical conditions, did the authors perform any control tests on freshly obturated materials to better isolate the effects of aging?
