This study offers important insights into how fertility rates in Italy responded to economic fluctuations between 2006 and 2018, particularly during the Great Recession. It made me wonder how these relationships might have evolved in the years following 2018, especially as the economy stabilized and demographic shifts, like changing immigration patterns or evolving gender roles, gained prominence. Would the inclusion of more recent data provide further clarity on whether the observed procyclical fertility trends persist in a post-recession context? Exploring these extended trends could enhance our understanding of the interplay between unemployment and fertility in a more dynamic socio-economic landscape.
